Open a file or folder to inspect its type relationships, Quick Look candidates, and registered viewer and editor apps. Version 2.0 puts more of the supporting evidence within reach.
Read the complete value.
Inspect the titles, dates, authors, dimensions, and other attributes macOS returns. Full Value views and copied reports preserve long values; differences between reported file types are highlighted.
Look beyond Applications.
Add read-only discovery folders, including development builds and Library locations. Recursive scans find modern preview and thumbnail extensions, legacy generators, and Spotlight importers, with coverage and errors visible.
A declared match identifies a candidate. It does not establish which provider or importer macOS actually uses, or prove that a preview works.

Search Diagnostics works through readable files in a folder you choose and its descendants. Its own resizable window keeps search results alongside your inspection reports.
Find words in files.
Combine filename and indexed-text matches with locally extracted contents. Filesystem searching can find readable files Spotlight did not return, and continues if an index query fails or reaches its gathering deadline.
Readers support text, Markdown, source code, PDF, RTF/RTFD, DOC/DOCX, and ODT where native extraction succeeds. On-device OCR reads text in supported images and PDF pages without extractable text.

“Which document explains how to install the software?” With an available Apple Intelligence model, natural-language mode interprets readable metadata and extracted text within your chosen folder.
Model availability, supported languages, safety rules, and context limits apply. Answers are interpretations; incomplete processing is reported.
Find the latest by date.
“Give me the latest Markdown file” uses the file’s actual modification time. Supported English queries can also request creation dates, oldest or newest order, result counts, today, yesterday, or a recent-day window.
Date queries work locally without the model. Missing timestamps are identified rather than guessed.
Check the evidence.
Results show file paths, types, creation and modification dates, where each result came from, and extraction status. Progress stages expose coverage gaps. Show More Results reveals later rows; Copy includes every retained result and any incomplete status.
Cancel, Done, or closing the search window stops active work. A new query, mode, or folder clears the previous output.

Inspection and search run locally. No files or queries are sent over the network, no cloud model is configured, and there is no analytics or tracking.
Access you choose.
Discovery-folder grants are saved on your Mac and can be removed. Search-folder access is temporary and is not saved as a bookmark. Discovery reads declarations without running provider or importer code.

Contact supportWhat can an inspection report establish?
Reports describe candidates found in readable declarations. They do not expose macOS’s private registration or enabled state, the provider or importer actually selected, embedding vectors, other apps’ entity stores, or semantic-index readiness. Legacy declarations remain separate from modern extension matches.
Does search change files or the Spotlight index?
Search uses read-only access. It does not donate content to an index, force reindexing, or execute document scripts. Unsupported or locked documents, unreadable paths, and model failures can leave gaps. Missing results alone do not establish that a file is absent or that indexing failed.
What is included when I copy a report?
Copied output can include local file paths, metadata, and summaries of readable document contents. Complete values and coverage details stay in the output. You choose whether and where to share it.
