Workspace Basics
Understand the toolbar, tabs, sidebars, and hardware-keyboard shortcuts used on iPad.
Top toolbar actions
Library is the stable starting point in one iPad window. Opening a structure shows its document title and a labeled Library back button. Scans have a back button to their starting screen. Editors, Settings, and Help use Cancel, Apply, or Done to return to the current task.
- New in Library starts a drawing or source draft. Apply opens the new document; Cancel leaves the library and existing documents unchanged.
- Library returns to your saved structures and keeps the current search, filters, and sorting. Open Documents resumes your selected document and its tabs.
- Add groups new drawings, new source drafts, New Tab, Open from Files, and Scan PDF for Chemistry.
- Scan PDF for Chemistry finds chemical names and printed structure drawings entirely on-device.
- Save stores chemistry in Library. Share exports the depiction. More > Extract splits or summarizes multi-record files.
- View groups Overview, element and map colors, carbon labels, bond colors, aromatic circles, and highlight styles. Unsupported controls are disabled for the current document.
- More > Settings controls repository sync, the default Overview Sidebar, and text size. About includes diagnostics export. Settings is also directly available in Library.
- More > Help opens this guide from a document; the Help button opens it from Library.
Tabs and sidebars
Each tab keeps its own document session, selection state, pending extraction workflow, and rendering options. You can keep a reaction in one tab and a pasted single-molecule scratchpad in another.
- Edit Structure Source or Edit Reaction Source opens a large staged text editor; Draw Structure or Draw Reaction opens Ketcher.
- The Overview Sidebar can be hidden with Option-Command-0.
Text size and readability
Open Settings > Text Size to adjust the app interface and Help Browser Font Size separately. Reset Text Sizes restores the defaults. In Help, Enlarge Diagram opens the scan workflow image in a zoomable system preview.
Hardware keyboard support
AtomLens includes a small set of practical shortcuts for iPad keyboards.
- Command-T opens a new tab.
- Command-, opens Settings.
- Command-Shift-/ opens Help.
- Option-Command-0 toggles the Overview Sidebar.
